What this website is

Legal Resource Center publishes independent, plain-language guides about U.S. law. The guides are general information. They are not legal advice, and reading them or contacting us does not create an attorney-client relationship. Laws, court decisions and agency policies change; always confirm the current rules with a licensed attorney.

How guides are researched

New and updated guides are checked against primary sources whenever possible: statutes, regulations, court opinions, the Federal Register and official agency publications. Each new guide lists its main sources and authorities and shows the date it was last reviewed. When a matter is still in litigation or a policy is being challenged, we describe it as an open question and state the date of our information. If we cannot verify a fact, we leave it out.

Links to other websites

Guides link to official sources, such as government websites and court records, and to third-party resources that we consider relevant to the topic. Some of those links point to websites of the law office of Simone Bertollini, including mandamus.com and n600k.com. Those websites are attorney advertising. The operator of this website collaborates with that law office on other projects. Links are chosen for their topical relevance, and readers should evaluate any law firm independently before hiring it. Links to outside websites open in a new tab, and we are not responsible for their content.
