Intern Activities

The activities of the legal Intern will include:

basic legal research;
preparing written advice;
attending client meetings;
being present at court hearings; and
a variety of tasks that may assist The Animal Law Center’s lawyers in their duties.

Elgibility Criteria

The Animal Law Center Internship Program candidate selection process is based on the following criteria:

Applicants must have:
- A university degree; or
- are in the final stage of their university studies; or
- are a recent graduate of a Paralegal trade school.
Preference is given to law graduates who are acquainted with animal law and (or) comparative law, and have an outstanding academic record and a demonstrated interest in animal law.
Applicants must be proficient in English - written and oral. Knowledge of other languages, particularly Spanish, is an asset. Applicants must have a superior writing ability.

Internship Program

The Animal Law Center seeks to recruit motivated interns through its Internship Program. The objectives of this program allow the Intern:

to obtain real-time experience with a law firm specializing in animal law;
to learn about the animal legal practice; and
to get acquainted with the overall legal profession.

The Internship Application Process

Candidates for The Animal Law Center Internship Program (ALCIP) must submit their application approximately 3 months before their intended start date.

The following deadlines apply:

Summer Interns	May to August	March 22
Fall Interns	September to December	June 30
Winter/Spring Interns	January to April	October 15 (previous year)

The Internship Application

Applicants must submit the following documents to be considered for the program:

a cover letter stating the reasons for applying;
a resume;
two written references;
a sample of written legal work; and
copies of university and other degrees, and (or) diplomas, with a list of completed courses.

Applications that are submitted outside the requirements set out above, will be regarded as incomplete, and may not be considered for the ALCIP.

The selection for the ALCIP is made from candidates who have submitted their application before the deadline. However, you may still apply after the deadline and consideration may still be possible.

After we receive your application, The Animal Law Center may contact you for a (further) assessment, in order to interview you and also to give you the opportunity to learn more about our law firm.
